picoboo: (DOLLY!)

Pico has been a ghost for longer than even she can remember and has haunted Dolce ever since she was a child who had the gift to be able to see ghosts.  Because of the strong bond between her and Dolce she eventually was able to become more visible to others, and became almost like an adopted sister by Dolce's parents who were proud of her daughter's gifts.  One day Dolce chooses to use her powers to go into a form of stasis so that she could provide the land with the magic and energy it needed called runes, and to continue to support and find a way for their friend Ventuswill the divine dragon to survive until a more permanent solution could  be found.  Pico was sad that Dolce wouldn't ever get to see her family or friends from her lifetime ever again, but promised that she would stay by her side and when she finally woke up she'd be there waiting for her.  As a ghost she could wait however long it took.  It is no exaggeration to say that Pico loves Dolce with all her little ghostly heart, and canonically can't go too far from her without passing on into the afterlife because Dolce is what keeps her going at this point.

Fast forward nearly 400 years and we have the main story line catching up to Pico and Dolce where Dolce can finally be released from her spell.

Pico is a little imp of a girl at times, loving to play practical jokes and using her ghostly powers to do so.  Nearly everything she does is usually because it's some way of showing her affection for her friend Dolce in some shape or form. She is basically the comedic foil to Dolce's dry sardonic wit, and seemingly cold personality. Her obsession and fixation on Dolce is often played up for laughs and is meant to be slightly creepy because she is in fact a ghost and weird. At the end of the day Dolce gets lonely very easily, and Pico is very protective of her and wants to make sure she's always there for her if she ever does feel lonely. She has a very caring heart which is part of what keeps her in the world of the living, but also many of her 'pranks' are more benevolent than malicious.

As a ghost she loves to stand out because she can be so easily overlooked otherwise. She's very loud, enthusiastic, and loves clothing and other effects that help her stand out, as well as Dolce. She oftentimes wishes she could experience things the same way living people do, so despite almost always staying by Dolce's side, she can be a bit of a social butterfly towards anyone who tries to strike up a conversation with Dolce. She often puts Dolce on a pedestal because Dolce is too shy and withdrawn to actually ask for things like praise or affection.

Video/Audio
(This portion of the writeup gives some chronological background characterization and history from the game itself, as well as video footage if you want to check it out, and haven't spent too much time reading this already.)

[Part 1] Ghost girl in town: So we get our first into to Pico as a character in RF4 from about this point, up until about 20 minutes into this video. Now if you want a quick summary Pico spooks out the residents of town for the first 5 minutes or so of this video, and then she can finally be approached at around the 15:35 second mark where she explains herself. After speaking with her Venti the dragon will say that you should help P-whoever this ghost is. (She doesn't want to let on that she knows who Pico is just yet)

[Part 2] Obsidian mansion: Now Pico finally introduces herself but is quick to run off to save her friend (You don't need to watch anything past her brief intro). It takes quite some time to make their way through the entire mansion to the boss fight but Pico is quite persistent when it comes to rescuing Dolce or Dolly and is waiting for them when they arrive.

Now ^ THIS video is probably the most important one for showcasing the majority of Pico's dedication and more serious side. She *can* be quite silly and immature at times, but as a ghost who has lived for centuries she's actually a lot more mature than she lets on. She understands the full meaning of sacrifice and hardships.

[Part 3] The running sign: In this video we see Pico running all over town invisible to try to breach the gap between Dolce and the other villagers. She cares about Dolce but feels like she doesn't open up to others very readily. I try to start it right as anything interesting happens, but RF4 is a relatively slow game that's about going around town and taking in the story while doing other things like shopping, crafting, and farming during your day.

[Part 4] Confronting Venti: In this part of the story, the discovery of the rune spheres has freed the divine dragon from deathly peril, and the guardians from ever needing to bind with the land again. As a consequence Dolce no longer needs to have her memories erased and Pico gets mad that Ventuswill hasn't restored her memories yet! It doesn't matter that she's a dragon god, Pico will bowl over innocent bystanders and body slam into said dragon god until she submits! A great scene to watch to see Pico's determination and grit in the face of her friend's welfare.

[Part 5] Love confession: If the main character is male and confesses their love for Dolce Pico gets a bit... jealous. BUT she also comes to understand and support the relationship if she finds out the protagonist is serious about wanting to be in a relationship with her, and will leave the two alone (at about the 2 minute mark) so they can start their relationship right.

[Part 6] Proposal event and Wedding: There's... really no way to shorten this one down. It's where we get the main chunk of Dolce AND Pico's characterization going on, apart from just their day to day dialogue options.

Pico still gets occasional bouts of Jealousy

But she loves Dolce more than anything and she knows Dolce can't very well marry a ghost and that she wants to someday have a family and love of her own.

[Party 7] Newlyweds: When Dolce gets married, the protagonist basically has Pico as part of the package deal and in this episode we see Dolce trying to prepare a special surprise present for Pico. It's a bit over the top and silly, but you get to see some of Pico's classic mischievous behavior throughout this little story arc.

[Part 8] Another episode: This is a cute little short 5 minute episode told from Dolce's perspective about a literal mini-adventure she had with Pico. It just goes to show the kind of mischief Pico gets up to in her obsession with Dolce, but also how much she loves her in the end. It's definitely the one I'd recommend watching most!

[PART 9] Pico's voice: She's... VERY enthusiastic and squeaky!
